I would like to split the question into two segments. First being why mental health matters?
It matters because we are not just a body but a mind too. As much as we need to take care of the body we must take care of the mind. And as the body can ail so can the mind. Unfortunately, until recent times the focus was predominantly body oriented. It is only in very recent times that we have started talking about the mind and therefore mental health.
The second segment is why it matters at the workplace. Because it is our field of action. The happier we are the better we will perform. The better we perform the better resources we shall become.
In this highly competitive ambiance, the survival depends on performance which is dependent on the mental state. Mental health is one of the most important factors that matter in a workplace especially in today’s era where everyone is trying to create a place for themselves.
The workload often leaves the employee stressed out and anxious. It is the onus of the employer then, to create an atmosphere which is conducive to mental well being. Some of the ways companies nowadays are helping their employees to gain a healthy mind through meditation, motivational seminars, in-house counsellors, various employee engagement activities etc.
These activities are thus employee’s mind to the fullest by refreshing and inculcating new ideas every day. Good mental health brings equal confidence to work directly increasing their productivity.
In all, a healthy mental state generates a happy work environment, inner peace and motivation to perform excellently thus delivering maximum profit for the company.
