Taking charge and showing up for yourself: A guide

cup, businessman, successful

I cannot do this! What do I do? I don’t know where my life is leading. Do you find yourself in this loop of self-doubt? If yes, let us assure you that you are not alone. Starting from the most successful individuals, to ones that have just started their journey, everybody at some point or the other finds themselves in self-doubt. However, the difference between the successful and unsuccessful ones is that they take charge and show up for themselves at the right time. Wondering how? Well here’s a guide for you.

Let us start by knowing what does it mean to “show up for oneself”. Showing up for yourself implies loving yourself, respecting yourself, and doing all that it takes to care for yourself. But How?  Must be the next question in your mind. Here’s the answer to your question.

 Know yourself

Unlike many of the discoveries, there isn’t a single mantra upon knowing how to take charge. There is a unique way for each individual and hence, one must know oneself to the core. May it be knowing your strengths and weakness or knowing your point of frustration, invest your time in knowing yourself.

Hone your strengths

Once you are well aware of who you are, it’s time to focus your attention on your strengths and hone them until you feel confident and assertive about yourself. Sharpening your strengths will prepare you for difficult times. They will enable you to not just show up for yourself but also to take charge of the situation.

What makes you unique?

As put by a famous adage, “By being yourself, you put something wonderful in the world that was not there before.” We often forget that to be seen, to be distinguished, all we have to do is be you! Thus, find what makes you different and adhere to those qualities.

Be on your own side:

Imagine being on your own side no matter what happens. What if you remain compassionate and loving to yourself upon committing a mistake or getting rejected. Surely there will be a surge of self-assuring feelings. Ones that will make you more confident. The more you tend to be on your own side, the more generous, powerful, and aware you become.

Avoid comparing:

With the world at our finger trips, it has become very easy to compare yourself with others. We are fascinated and intrigued by what is happening on the outside and are dissatisfied with what we have. As a result, there is constant dissatisfaction with self. Overcoming comparison can instill a strong sense of confidence and hence the virtue of showing up for oneself.

Be stronger than your excuses:

We have often come across people who somehow accomplish all that they desire no matter what the circumstance. This is because they decided to overcome their excuses and take charge instead. It is important to know that your dreams and desires are yours to take care of. Hence come what may it is your responsibility to be accountable for yourself and put your excuse behind to succeed.

Taking charge and showing up for yourself isn’t a one-time thing but an attitude to adopt. It is the belief that no matter what, I shall stand for myself and get past every difficulty that comes in the way. One must understand that it is a way of life that makes everything easy but takes dedicated perseverance in everyday life. Once achieved, it creates a fresh perspective to approach the world. One where no matter what you remain true to yourself.
