My life isn’t streamlined! I am not in control of what’s happening in my life! What do I do to make things happen my own way? Well most of the time, in order to make things happen in our lives, we wait for someone to push us. Whether it is our moms who ask us to make that bed right or our bosses who set new deadlines each week. We always have someone to tell us what’s the right thing to do. But what if we decide to take control of our own life? What if we take the helm of the ship in our own hands? Won’t it be the best thing for us? To be able to lead our own path. To be able to be our own boss!
Well the thought itself is exhilarating! However, as alluring as it may sound, being a boss implies taking up responsibilities and acting upon them. As fulfilling as it may feel, it is altogether a grinding process. To be your own boss means to be your own master. To wholesomely take the responsibility of leading your own way and making sure you reach the pinnacle of your own best self. To be your own boss means to be present for yourself time and again and show up for yourself in difficult times. So how do we be our own boss and take charge of our own lives? Here’s how!
Stairs over escalators
your far-fetched vision, your goals, your daily tasks, or your dreams, nothing happens overnight. It is only after persistent grinding and challenges that you land up in a favorable place. Being a boss means taking the challenges head-on. It is saying no to any shortcuts and making progress through roads and pathways that will test you time and again. Being a boss means earning everything the hard way, It will always make you choose the stairs over escalators. And it is with these stairs that you will learn the most important life lessons and become wise.
Master your mind
We often hear that we do what our mind says. But in reality, it is the other way round. You are not the slave of your mind, it does exactly what you ask it to do! Want to test it? Okay, Touch your feet. I am sure you could do that in a snap of time. If you can make yourself do anything then why not take full charge. Our mind is exposed to both positive and negative aspects. It is upon you to train your mind to filter out unnecessary thoughts and encourage yourself towards constructive thinking.
Understand whats in your control
A boss has the birds-eye view of everything that is going on. If he or she is willing, one can interfere and engage in every activity. But a true boss knows that he or she cannot have control over everything and hence the best thing to do is to understand what is in your control. Once that is defined become inferior to everything that does not fall in your criteria. This will allow you to magnify your focus on things that need your attention.
Conquer your thoughts:
It is a known fact that thoughts govern our actions. It is the thoughts that come first and lay the basis for everything that we do or say. But what if we conquer our thoughts? What if we train ourselves such that every thought is the first step towards being the best version of ourselves. If we harbor the thoughts of success, we will automatically develop the zeal and energy to create milestones for ourselves. So the next time there’s an avalanche of negative or demeaning thoughts, turn the switch off and transform them into positive ones.
Get past your comfort zone
It has been mentioned time and again by various psychologists and therapists, a mind can be trained into a stronger one when it is introduced to new things and challenges. A boss is the one who has no other option but to deal with the challenges head-on. And for this to happen effectively, one must have a strong mindset. This can be achieved only when you push yourself to get past that comfort zone. And how do we do that? We do that by trying new things each day or by practicing tough things that you wouldn’t do usually. Getting past your comfort zone will help you hone your strengths and would develop a strong mindset.
Excel your game:
To be your own boss means to excel at whatever you do. Make a list of everything that you do in your day-to-day life. Then add things and tasks that will enable you to hone your skillset. Once done keep at it until you excel in each and everything. If you are a good public speaker, ace yourself in the art of speaking. If you are a manager, get the best at creating and giving presentations and managing data. Know what you are demanded to do on a usual basis and excel in your game.
Thrive not survive
Do you feel contented and happy with just passing another day? Do you complain and blame others for your own circumstances? Do you choose paths that require the least resistance? If the answer is yes, you are just surviving. You are waiting for the day to end and do not look forward to the opportunities that may come your way. Well, a boss doesn’t survive but thrives. And to thrive means to be filled with positive emotions. It implies having positive relationships and a mindset that craves accomplishments. If you want to be your own boss, you gotta thrive and not just survive.
