5 Signs of Bad Parenting that Every Parent Should Know

Bad parenting!! Is there something like this? Well, not really. However, parenting which results in an unhappy child and a child whose best is not brought about could be termed as parenting which has failed and therefore, bad.

The 5 ways you could be a failed parent as below.

  • Controlling: Controlling wherein every move, every act is watched and monitored. When the child is expected to “fall in line” with the strict regimen and instructions given. It takes away the liberty to choose, to think, to act. The one byword is “follow”. It can result in lower life satisfaction, make the child unhappy and it results in low IQ, poor decision-making skills and fosters dependence.
  • Pampering: Give them what they want and they will never learn to value the things or your attention even love that you bestow. They tend to take things for granted and also you. You are by giving them what they want to make them demanding. Though, in life not preparing them for the eventuality when they do not get what they want without working for it. Later in life, they can’t take their own decisions, become fretful, clumsy, unskilled and arrogant.
  • Comparing: Instead of valuing your child for what he/she is you are drawing parallels with other children, conveying to them that the other child is better than him. A child loses self-confidence and grows up with a feeling of worthlessness. You are unconsciously leading your child towards sadness and unacceptances of one’s self.
  • Neglecting: Not giving your child the due attention. They feel unwanted and isolated because for a child you are the world to them. You are that person they want to lean on. Not finding you there at critical moments makes them feel unsupported. This damages their ability to reach out to other people or they start to feel support from any and everywhere. It jams their emotional side so much that they do grow up to be wayward or lonely.
  • Lack of trust: It is said that faith can move mountains. Same for your child. Trust him and have faith in him or else they start to hide things from their parents and learn to lie. Trust them and you have in your child a human being well grounded in values of life.

Love, affection, attention, care, discipline, trust and your time is what they seek and that is what they should get. Parents may face problems especially in how they inculcate the right values in their children. If you are facing any such issues that are causing you distress, then you must consider parental counselling.
